Crib Notes: 6 Gorgeous Books for Terrible Times
These days even my son’s picture books make me desperately nostalgic for the time ‘before’. An illustration of Peter Rabbit enjoying an impromptu piece of pumpkin pie with his cousin Benjamin Bunny (who is, we can assume, not from the same household) fills me with envious longing. I’m bored, tired and my maternal energy is at an all time low, dipping below zero whenever the weather threatens our daily walk. We’re all feeling this way, aren’t we? These are difficult times to be living through, let alone parenting through. Miraculously — writing at a snail’s pace — I have pulled together six books that offer companionship, comfort and cheer. Whether you need something to get you through half-term, or you’re looking after a newborn and feeling lonely, I hope you find something restorative here.
